Bouncing Ball in a Simple Environment

This is a second bouncy ball animation I did on Maya which is a little more complex than my first animation, as I tried to recreate the movements of a real ball when it is bouncing off of other objects.

Animal Skulls - 3

I like this drawing of a hippopotamus' skull as it has a large and loose feel to it and makes it seem a little abstract looking.

Animal Skulls - 2

I like my drawing of the common toad as I believe it to be quite neat and accurate looking.

Animal Skulls

Here I was observing the skeletal forms of animals and drawing them.  I have to say, I found the elephant skull a little tricky to perfect as I think I drew it slightly out of proportion.

People Doing Things - 5

A friend eating food.

People Doing Things - 4

A girl sitting down playing cards.

People Doing Things - 3

Someone reading a book.

People Doing Things - 2

A friend whilst writing a shopping list.

People Doing Things - 1

For this project we had to draw people doing things, as we will be observing this all the time for characters in animation.  In this case the friend I drew was talking on the phone.

Mock Environmental Agency Storyboard

Part of a storyboard I made for a lesson, in which we had to produce storyboard from a script made by the Environmental Agency to promote awareness of the dangers of fly - tipping.  I now understand that to make it into a proper storyboard I would have needed to create more frames to create a flow between theses images and therefore, link them to one another.  As they should be.

First animation on Maya!

This was my first project on maya, creating the illusion of a heavy and a light ball bouncing.  I realise that I exagerated the bounce of the light ball but I am still pleased with my first attempt at 3D animation.

The Greedy Banker

This was an assignment I had to make an animation between 66 and 125 frames long or 5 - 10 seconds in length and my subject was on bankers.  I am very pleased with the result, as it is the first animation i have done of this length and I especially like the way I added panning and zooming in.  Also, towards the end of the animation I notice that I did not use enough frames to reveal the youtube logo and that this makes the end look a little rushed but I think for the most part I made the drawings consistent in the spacing between them.

Take a look - I hope you like it :)

Werewolf

This is a drawing I created in my spare time of a wolf changing back into her human form.  I drew the first wolf image from a photo of a leaping wolf, however, the other two images were from my imagination.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 18 (Finale)

As Teddy's owner carries him back home, Teddy leans over her shoulder and grins sinsterly back at the means kids watching. What is the psychopathic teddy bear planning..?

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 17

Teddy's owner shows up and surprises him, he pretends to act like a lifeless, stuffed toy again.

A Toy Story Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 16

Teddy's new attitude is terrifying and results in one of the mean kids breaking down in tears.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 15

Teddy reveals the knife he has acquired.

To create this image i contorted my toy's body to do this but had to draw from memory as the toy did not remain in the same postition.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day if Unfortunate Events - 14

The mean kids lean over Teddy, sneering at him.  They have no idea what they're in for..

I drew these drawings from photos I had taken of my friends and simplified them, enhancing the comic book feel of them.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 13

Teddy overcomes his fear but is overwhelmed with anger - he wants revenge!

I think I captured the expression of hatred here very well and I think the fire in his eyes also adds to this.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 12

Teddy begins to cry, he's afraid, he misses his owner and didn't realise other people could be so cruel.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 11

Poor Teddy, he's bruised, battered and even has a scar on his nose from his tormentor's bullying actions.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 10

The bullies throw Teddy around like a volleyball!

For this sketch I drew the hands and Teddy from seperate pictures, from one where I am holding Teddy as if he is flying through the air and from another where I took a picture of someone holding their hands out, as if they are throwing something.  I then combined them in this same drawing to make it look as if someone is throwing Teddy.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 9

The mean kids continue their cruelty by kicking Teddy

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 8

Uh Oh! Some mean kids, start to terrorise Teddy.  They grab him from both sides and begin stretching him.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 7

Teddy by a rockpool at the beach.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 6

Teddy is bored again, so he goes to the bus stop to see where he can go but he is beginning to feel homesick.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 5

Teddy Drying off on the park steps.

I realised that I had drawn the steps with half an angle so that they are a little  lopsided, however I chose to keep them that way so that in future I can observe and learn from it.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 4

Oh no! Teddy falls into the sink!

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 3

Teddy stumbles upon the kettle and oh no! The steam from the kettle burns his ear!

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events - 2

Teddy in front of the giant kitchen door, leading to a place full of wonders.
Teddy wants to explore.

From here on in the story the drawings are much more simple.  I did this to contrast with how fluffy Teddy looks the first time we meet him and also to give the drawings more of a cartoon look.

A Toy Story: Teddy's Day of Unfortunate Events

This was a project we had, where we would take a toy and draw them from different perspectives and in different locations to create a kind of journal or story with them.  My story begins with Teddy sitting down, bored, on a chair after his owner has gone out.
What should he do..?

I wanted to make the first sketch slightly more detailed than the others by outlining the fur on Teddy so that he would look especially cuddly comparing to later sketches, as you will find out.

Bouncing Ball: Demonstrating Squash & Stretch

Here, we were set an assignment to represent what we'd learnt about squash & stretch being a key factor in animation, using the image of a bouncing ball.
Admittedly I did my drawings upside down and I think next time I will do more squash and stretch.  However, looking at it now I think I can say that all that is needed is to practise to improve, which is a comforting thought.

Beginning animation

This was an excercise I did as an introduction to my Digital Animation course, where we had to use our imagination to create an animation starting with a circle.
